Blog Catchup – Montreal Soapbox Derby

This is the second post in my series that aims to to cover all the adventures I went on (but didn’t blog about) over the last month. About a month ago I went to Montreal to visit my boyfriend for the Labour Day long weekend. He suggested that we check out this “event” that was happening only a few minutes walk from his apartment. He left it as a surprise, and I have to say, a soapbox derby was not something I expected to see in the middle of such a big city. It was hilarious, teams had come from all over, and they were all dressed up in the craziest costumes. Each car had a theme and did a little skit/dance before setting off down the long, curving race track. In case you haven’t heard of them, soapbox cars hold one or two passengers and are powered entirely by gravity. We watched several of them race down the track, some successfully and some that crashed. It was a very fun way to spend a sunny afternoon and apparently lots of other people agreed with us since the place was packed.

I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves, since my family is arriving tomorrow (it is Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and I’m sort of hosting my immediate family) and I need to tidy up a bit!
