Defense Day

My oral defense for my Masters thesis is scheduled at 2pm today.

I’m all ready to go, and I don’t want to make myself nervous by over-practicing.

Instead, I’m going to fill the next 2-3 hours by reading blogs, answering emails, and possibly doing a little baking if I really need to distract myself. As long as I don’t immediately eat all the results of that baking, I should be good!

I managed to have a great day yesterday doing more tourist-y things in downtown Ottawa, but more on that in my Friday post. My other success is that I finally went through all my shoes for the final KonMari clothing session!2015-08-29 11.20.04It turns out I have more shoes than I actually thought I did…although I know it is still a fairly low shoe count for your average Canadian woman in her mid-20s. I got rid of 2 sandals, 2 shoes and 1 pair of boots, and the remainder fits neatly on my shoe rack in the bedroom closet (off-season) and the trays in the front closet (on-season). I’ve also identified a few pairs that need replacing at the beginning of next summer, most likely.

With that, I can finally move away from the Clothing section and into the other “stuff” categories. I’ve actually been wanting to do this for ages. Ever since I’ve started the KonMari process I’ve started to notice other things I want to get rid of. Sometimes I go so far as to put them into the Donate bags immediately, but other stuff is buried and I need the discipline of a formal decluttering session to get myself to actually dig it out.

I started this process on June 30. It took me 2 months to get through the Clothing category, but I have a feeling Books and Paper will go much more quickly. Especially once I get this Masters degree all wrapped up!

And with that, I’m off to go bake something. Only 2.5 hours until showtime!
